I've got several windows 7 machines now, and an xbox 360. I've noticed that sometimes the 'play to' option is available, and sometimes it's not. If I open up media player on one machine, and I've got the streaming options set with the proper permissions for that machine to allow from the other, it seems to show up and work (but only sometimes)
The 360 shows up in the permissions list, but I'm unable to stream to it (play to). Do I need to have the 360 running in media center extender mode?
Does windows media player have to be open already on the machine that I'm trying to 'play to'?Can it work with a guest account (client or server)? Does the account need to be logged in, on the client?
Any other reasons a machine might not show up in the play to list (like if you're already playing something maybe?)

The PlayTo menu will not be available if there are no Digital Media Renderer devices available to your network. What is clear pending interrupt code. The menu becomes available to you sometimes becuase you had probably turned on a Windows Media Player somewhere in your network and this one was configured to act as a DMR. WMP on the other side does not act a service. It is just a player so you have to instatiate the application before being able to control it over the wire.XBOX360 it is not a standlone DMR. It becomes a DMR only when it is in the media extender mode. Otherwise it is just a player that it can pull content from a Windows server (this is why you can see it in the permisions list). However, outside of the extender mode it does not exposes the UPnP services required to be controlled over the wire.

360 must be in media extender mode.

Windows Media Player must already be running on the target machine. I’m pretty sure it runs on the guest account.

Like its earlier versions, Windows 10 chooses its default players to run your music and video clips. But, what if you do not like the default media player and instead, want a different program to open your music and video files? You can set your desired program as the default Media Player in Windows 10. Let us see how to do it.
Default Media Player in Windows 10
Windows has a set of programs that it will always use to open certain file types. For instance, when you attempt to play a supported file type, such as Windows Media Audio (.wma) or Windows Media Video (.wmv), the Windows Media Player opens up instantly and automatically begins playing the file. Most of the time this is fine, but you might want a different program to do the job, such as VLC Media Player. So here’s a way how to do it.
Recent versions of WMP include the ability to synchronize digital media with a portable media player, like Microsoft’s Zune or Creative’s Zen and purchase or rent content from online media stores so, you may keep it as your default player. However, other media players like VLC Media Player has many of the most popular codecs already built into the program, so you can watch practically any video file without having to download a codec pack.
Open the Settings app and then click on ‘System’. From the ‘System Settings’ section look for Default Apps option in the left side. Scroll down a bit if you do not find the option.
Here you can select the default app for Music files and Movies & TV. Click on Music Player and you will see a list of apps displayed, that can open these files. Select the one you want and click on it.

Follow the same procedure for Video Player.
After you have done this, you will have successfully set the player of your choice as default media player in Windows 10.
If you wish to reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults, you can click on the Reset button towards the end.

Windows Media Player 11, Microsoft's media player and media library application, enables you to organize, store and display images from meetings, training events, new product lines and other business-related functions. The program's photo import function adds, organizes and stores photos via the Windows Media Player 11 Library component. The import function automatically searches your office computer’s hard drive for photos, and subsequently performs periodic checks for any new photos you add to your hard drive.
1.Launch Windows Media Player 11, click the arrow below the 'Library' tab, and then click 'Add to Library.'
2.Select the radio button next to 'My personal folders.' If your computer is part of a company-wide computer network and other individuals have access to your computer for storing photo files, select the radio button next to 'My folders and those of others that I can access' to access other users' photo files.
3.Click the 'Advanced Options' button, and then click the 'Add' button to access all folders on your computer.
4.Navigate to the folder containing the photos you want to add to Windows Media Player 11's Library, and then double-click the folder's name. If the photos are located in multiple folders on your computer, repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each additional folder you want to retrieve photos from to add to the Library.
5.Click the 'OK' button. Windows Media Player 11 searches the folders you've selected as well as your computer's My Pictures folder, and adds the photos to its Library component. The program prompts you once the photo file search and add process is complete.
6.Click the arrow below the 'Library' tab, and then click 'Pictures' to access and view the photos.
Tip
- If you add a new photo or delete a photo from one of the folders you've selected during the initial photo file search process, Windows Media Player 11 automatically adds or deletes the photo(s) via its folder monitoring feature.
